Strange South Korean Halo Commercials

These advertisements consist of Master Chief scaring people in a mall, fighting a giant lizard, and dancing with people on a subway train. I’m wondering where I can get one of those Master Chief suits.

The Red Ring of Death Spares No One

I do not own an Xbox 360, but I am still aware of the “Red Ring of Death” problem making many gamers want to yank out their hair and buy a PS3. I recently saw a example of this problem at my locale EB games. Like other EB games, mine has displays set up so gamers can play demos and try out different platforms. So I’m at the store with my friend who wanted to buy a Wii before the stores current stocks were sold out. I’m looking at the different displays all lined up next to each other: a Wii, a PS3, and an Xbox 360, which I can’t play because there is some sort of error message on the screen. I look down and what do I see? The Red Ring of Death. Even the machines that stores use to try and sell Xbox 360’s don’t work. I overheard some of the guys working in the store talking about it, and they said it is the second time this has happened and it is completely ridiculous. Is this the result of the Xbox 360 being released a year ahead of the Wii and PS3, or just bad design? Whatever the reason Microsoft has a responsibility to fix it.

Spore delayed

This isn’t exactly breaking news, but it’s news none the less. Spore, a game of evolution from Will Wright, the genius behind The Sims, has been delayed to the 2008 fiscal year. I have been looking forward to Spore since it appeared on the cover of the June 2006 issue of Computer Gaming World. It will be released some time after April 1st, 2008. Maxis says it should only be a short time after this date, and the PC and DS versions will be released simultaneously. Spore did not show at this years E3, but it is set to appear at the Leipzig Games Convention this near the end of this month. I have high hopes for this game and I hope the extra time Maxis has to finish it will be put to good use.

Newly announced game “They”

German gaming company IMC announced “They.” The company said it is a “first-person mystery shooter” and it will be released on PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC. The rest of the description is fairly vague. Here is the single screenshot that’s been released:

Okay is it just me or does that thing in the screenshot look like the Phantoms for “Final Fantasy the Spirits Within”?

PS3 price cut part 2

In my opinion the PS3 is too expensive, but I think it is only fair to show the other side of the argument. Heres an article from The “Break it Down” Blog:

PS3 Still Too Expensive? No way…

He makes some valid points, but I still think the PS3 is too expensive. Maybe I’m just cheap. 🙂

PS3 price cut only temporary?

Like thousands of other gamers I have been closely following this years E3. I had heard rumors of a PS3 price drop, and was happy to hear it was fact after E3 started. Imagine my surprise when I read yesterday in a 1up article that the PS3 price drop is “only temporary” (WTF!) Sony stated as follows:

“The 60GB PS3 will be available in North America for $499 until supplies of that unit are depleted. We have ample inventory to meet the immediate needs of consumers in this territory for several months to come. We won’t be making any further announcements regarding our PS3 model hardware strategy in North America until the 60GB model is exhausted and market conditions are evaluated.”

Even though they are lowering the price of the 60GB, but after the supplies are gone they will only be selling a new $599 model that will have an 80GB hard drive and will also ship with a copy of MotorStorm. This new model will become available in august. As of April the PS3 has sold 1.1 million units, the Xbox 360 has sold 5 million, and the Wii has sold 1.86 million. Even though the Xbox 360’s lead is mainly due to its early release, the PS3 is still in last place. Even the PS2 has sold more units than the PS3 in the time since its release. I am a loyal user of PS2 and once owned a PS1, but I will never spend $600 on a game console.
